IELTS Writing Masterclass Course Outline
This is a high-level preparation course for the IELTS Writing test. It offers you an in-depth look at both Task 1 and 2 (General Training and Academic) and aims to equip you with the skills required to write effectively for IELTS.

- Student level: approx. Intermediate and above (CEFR B2+)
- Contact hours: 10 hours of virtual learning via Zoom (5 x 2-hour sessions)
- Self-study workbook (using Classkick)
Course learning outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- W1 - outline the key features of the IELTS writing test
- W2 - understand the IELTS Band descriptors/Assessment criteria for Writing
- W3 - describe Tasks 1 and 2
- W4 - analyse Task 1 and 2 questions and their requirements
- W5 - focus on the question / respond to the bullet points / use the correct tone / types of diagram
- W6 – structure your Task 1 writing (diagram description/letter) appropriately
- W7 – grammar and vocabulary for Task 1
- W8 - apply an appropriate structure for the Task 2 essay
- W9 - organise your paragraphs appropriately and use linking words
- W10 - write a strong introduction and conclusion using a structured approach
- W11 - review your writing using a checklist for Task 1 and Task 2
Materials
You will receive the following before the course starts:
- General English Grammar and Composition Book
- Additional Study Materials used for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
- a student information document with:
information about the online tool Classkick where you can access your student book and self-study workbook
top tips for virtual classes (behaviour and etiquette of online learning)
- a soft copy of your student book and workbook in case you would like to print them out
Pre-course task
You will complete 1 piece of writing before the start of the course. This is to help your IELTS expert understand your level of general writing. You will not receive any feedback on this.
